Job Purpose

Coach clients individually according to their fitness needs, through an agreed exercise/physical activity plan and assist with behavioral change.

Job Description

A personal trainer’s role includes designing, implementing and evaluating exercise/physical activity programmes for a range of individual clients by collecting and analyzing client information to ensure the effectiveness of personal exercise programmes. A personal trainer should also actively encourage potential clients/members to participate in and adhere to regular exercise/physical activity programmes, employing appropriate motivational strategies to achieve this.

  • Collect information relating to individual clients

  • Carry out fitness assessments to establish client fitness and skill level

  • Analyse information relating to individual clients

  • Identify, agree and review short, medium and long term goals to ensure the effectiveness of exercise programmes

  • Provide a range of exercise programmes in accordance with the needs of the clients by applying principles of exercise programming

  • Make best use of the environment in which clients are exercising

Delivery Methods
  • Workshop days are delivered every other Saturday with a new course starting every 6-8 months. With our commitment to the flexibility of delivery, you can spread your learning time frame over a period of 8 to 12 months.

  • Whichever study method you choose you are supported throughout your program via exceptional tutor support, an E-learning portal, and other study materials.

Course Structure
  • For the FAE Malta Level 3 & Level 4 Awards in Fitness Instruction and Personal Training, learners can attend between 12, and 15 workshop days.

  • The workshop day option requires attendance to present at least 80% of the GLH. This is to ensure that all assessments can be completed. If you choose to attend additional workshop days, these days would be 100% learning days where you would review your understanding and practice the application under the guidance of an experienced tutor.

  • In order to achieve your Level 3 & Level 4 Awards in Fitness Instruction and Personal Training, these workshops do not have to be attended as part of the same cohort. For example, those learners wishing to attend all workshop days in quick succession could attend the full days of a specific cohort. Another learner may wish to space their learning out or be unable to attend a given date, therefore they could spread their attendance between 2, 3 or more cohorts.

  • We would advise learners to leave themselves sufficient time in order to complete suitable learning before attending workshop days. This helps learners maximise the learning benefit and chances of a successful assessment. Your tutor would advise you on how best to do this.

  • Prior to, during, and after the personal training course, you will be supported by a highly qualified and experienced tutor. As a minimum, all personal training qualification learners are supported via mandatory 1 on 1 live webinars with your tutor on a monthly basis. During these visits learning activities are reviewed and new ones are agreed upon with suitable support provided. As all learners have their own circumstances, additional webinars, phone, and email support are provided to learners when necessary.

The Level 3 Certificate in Fitness Instructing workshop is delivered over Five days. The workshops are delivered every other Saturday and are structured so you can attend all 5 days and match your workshop dates over a 4-month period, depending on your personal situation and preferred time frame.

Pre-Workshop

Before attending your Level 3 Fitness Instructor workshop, we recommend completing the three primary sections of the Fitness Assistant online learning to cover the more theoretical units and content of the course. Typically, you should have submitted and passed all your assessments for:

  • How the body works
  • How to adopt an active healthy lifestyle
  • How to ensure a safe, clean, and friendly environment
  • Anatomy & Physiology for Health and Fitness

When you attend the Level 3 Fitness Instructor workshop, the days predominantly focus on the practical aspects of your qualification, as well as providing opportunities to embed some of the theoretical content that you have previously learned.

Post Workshop Days

After attending the workshop days, your FAE Malta tutor will support you in completing the final component, which consists of a 15-40 hour internship. Your options are numerous and may include working as an online personal trainer, a self-employed freelance personal trainer, or an employed personal trainer at a facility of your choice.

The career options available following the completion of your Level 3 & Level 4 Awards in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training don’t just stop there. With FAE Malta there are options to progress onto other Level 4 and higher qualifications such as the Level 4 Diploma in Sports Massage, the Level 4 Diploma in Exercise Referral , and eventually become a Level 5 Specialist in Weight Management, Obesity,Nutrition,Strength & Conditioning and Diabetes.

Access to an online learning platform featuring extensive content that has been developed expressly for each individual training course unit.

  • Online Learning

You will have the option to check your understanding of each unit using a knowledge checker. Each question in the knowledge checker has been carefully selected from a very large question bank. These might be true or false, multiple choice, fill in the blank, mark the words or any number of other types of questions!

  • Exercise library

You will have an access to our exercise library with over 700 different exercises. Whether you're a beginning exerciser who needs help getting started or someone who wants to add some spice to your fitness routine, our FAE Malta Exercise Library offers a variety of movements to choose from. Browse through total-body exercises or movements that target more specific areas of the body. Each comes with a detailed description and photos to help ensure proper form.

Workshop Days

You are required to go to a workshop as part of the curriculum for your personal training course. On each of these days, there will be a total of four sessions: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. A review of previously acquired knowledge is followed immediately by an exercise that puts that information to use during each and every session. You will have the opportunity to have open conversations in an atmosphere that is both encouraging and friendly during these sessions, which are led by our knowledgeable personal trainers.

You may check out the reviews that people have left about our personal training workshop days on Google. There have been a lot of favorable comments.

Recorded Submissions

We strongly encourage you to provide your own recordings of your approach, delivery, and consulting styles so that we can better support online and distant learning. This can be accomplished by providing your instructor with a link to a recording of you speaking, which they will then listen to and provide you with valuable feedback on. This provides you with the additional benefit of ongoing support between the days of your personal training course, allowing you to ensure that you are continuing to develop and use your newly acquired abilities.

This works both ways; you may also expect your personal training course tutor to deliver recorded demonstrations and further explanations in the same way, depending on the circumstances.

Example Pro-forma’s

Worksheets, case studies, and assignments will need to be turned in at various stages throughout the Level 4 Personal Training course that you are taking. We realise that you may not be familiar with this procedure, so in order to help you have a better grasp of what is expected of you, we will provide you with some examples of completed proformas.
